March 02, 2011

Congratulations, we have selected Alone and Unafraid to receive our
Patriotic Website Award! Our editors have selected your website as one of
the top military websites on the web, and we wanted to honor you with this
award. We have reserved this award for only twenty of the web's websites -
for those we felt were most patriotic. We especially like the way you
donate 5% of your earnings to the injured veteran's fund. Doing this brings
many blessings to injured vets and I am sure that they are more appreciative
than you will ever know.Congrats again and most importantly, thank you for honoring our country and
it's veterans!

We’ve got a runner

September 18, 2010

One local resident is taking great strides to raise money for the men and women who serve America.

John Dailey of Hubert is preparing for the eighth annual Great Eastern Endurance Run, presented by Bad to the Bone Endurance Sports and Charlottesville Running Company on Sept. 25 in Charlottesville, Va. Dailey and about 150-200 other participants will have 19 hours to run 100 kilometers, a 62-mile course, along the Blue Ridge Mountains.

"It's kind of interesting for me to see how far I can run,” Dailey said. “I figured as long as I do that I could give back and raise money, particularly to Marines in a charity.”

The retired Marine will be running on behalf of Alone and Unafraid, a military themed apparel business that donates a percentage of its proceeds to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. The Semper Fi Fund provides immediate financial assistance for injured service members and their families. Dailey said that he has witnessed friends who have benefitted from the organization and wanted to use his new interest in running to help others. Dailey also started a website to track his fundraising efforts toward his goal of $5,000.

“We have $1,000 dollars left and raised just over $4,000,” Dailey said. “One of the cool things is that on the website, friends that work for different companies will donate knives and flashlights that will be raffled off to anyone who donates.”

Dailey’s interest in running grew after he retired from the Marine Corps in 2008 after serving 20 years. He has since participated in several 50K races in Virginia. The Great Eastern Endurance Run will be his longest race yet.

“I really started training to compete in marathons in January,” Dailey said. “Before then I wasn’t much of a runner other than in the Marines. After I retired I wanted some excitement to fill my time with, and I found that I’m pretty good at running long distances.”

Although the local terrain is vastly different from the hills and slopes of Charlottesville, Dailey has been running 70 miles a week to prepare for his upcoming challenge.

“This is a lot more uphill than races I’ve done before. It has a 15,000-foot elevation gain,” Dailey said. “There’s not a lot of hills to train here, so I run a couple of times a week on the treadmill and I put it on the maximum elevation.”

Dailey said that even after the race ends, he still encourages others to donate to the Semper Fi Fund and its continued efforts to support injured service members. Although he has a long journey ahead of him, Dailey is grateful to run for those who have sacrificed so much for his country.

"It's pretty tiring in the end," Dailey said. “But knowing that you’ve done something that is above and beyond is always kind of a good feeling.”

New Military-Themed T-shirt Website AloneAndUnafraid.com Launches

September 01, 2009

Founded by two U.S. Marines, AloneAndUnafraid.com features t-shirts with military-style graphics; donates 5 percent of sales to Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.

(COLORADO SPRINGS, CO) September 1, 2009 — Alone and unafraid. It’s a phrase that has many meanings. For website founders and U.S. Marines Aaron Moore and Rick Tippins, “Alone and Unafraid” is all about cultivating self confidence and self reliance, balanced by having an unselfish dedication to higher ideals. So what does all this have to do with t-shirts?

“It’s pretty simple,” explains Aaron Moore, who recently retired after 21 years of service in the Marine Corps. “We wanted to create cool stuff we’d want to wear ourselves – t-shirts, and eventually other gear – that reinforce the Alone and Unafraid philosophy. It’s all about being hard as nails when required, but having a sense of perspective, and lending a hand to others.”

To that end, the site’s founders are giving 5 percent of their sales to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, a group that provides much-needed assistance for America's wounded heroes and their families.

More than just an e-commerce site, AloneAndUnafraid.com also seeks to become a community for those who wish to participate, via sharing stories, photos or other memories. “When you’re pushing to do the right thing, there’s resistance,” explains site co-founder Rick Tippins, who served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps prior to his long career in law enforcement. “At some point in our lives, we all find ourselves out front – alone and unafraid. We’re hoping people of all backgrounds will share some of their inspiring stories.”

The website is launching with six t-shirt designs, with more to follow. The shirts can be purchased at AloneAndUnafraid.com.
